These murders were the "basis" for the "Amityville Horror."Claims he had heard voices coming from within his home in Amityville telling him to murder his family.Later supposedly became a business partner with his defense attorney William Weber, in a bid to make a financial profit from the events surrounding the murders.Letters and various psychiatric documents exist showing him to be a different character from that of the Monster, as publicized in movies, books and texts.Remains optimistic that he will one day be released from custody, despite failing at all of his previous parole boards.He now claims that his sister Dawn Defeo played a key part in the murders, and is calling for three such crimes to be taken into consideration.Following his arrest in 1974, he claimed in his official testimony that he had heard a disembodied voice telling him to kill his family, though after much deliberation it was later revealed the claim was merely a ploy, as apart of an insanity defense plea led by his Defense Attorney William Weber.
